Johnny
Paul
I first saw Johnny Paul at his club in San Pedro, California when I was
stationed there in 1956.
It was the most fun night I had ever spent. Johnny took my watch,
made chosen cards appear
in my breast pocket or rise mysteriously from the pack. He cavorted
behind
the bar, tore up my
money, threw the pieces down over his shoulder and performed the most
amazing
cups and balls
routine I have ever seen! All non-stop and with constant gags and "bits
of business".
He performed for
years at the LaSalle Hotel in Chicago and at his Magic Lounge in
Cicero, IL.
Don Alan, Senator
Crandall, Jim Ryan and others learned the business while working Johnny
Paul's
Magic Lounge in
Cicero. Jim Ryan was pretty much a Johnny Paul clone. Johnny then had
his own
club in San Pedro, CA and then moved to the Valley.
Johnny finally ended up in Las Vegas, where
he should have been from the start.
I last saw Johnny while visiting his home in Las Vegas where he treated
me to an afternoon of
story telling and photo album looking about his amazing and very
succesful
career! He died two
days later!
