Blackstone, Senior became my favorite magician when I was
thirteen years
of age and traveled 80 miles on a Greyhound bus to see his show in Richmond,
Virginiain about 1949. I was supposed to see the afternoon matinee show and then to
return home afterwards, but I was so enthralled that I sat through the same George Raft
movie three times in order to watch the evening show. I was in trouble when I got home,
but I didn't care, I'd seen Blackstone twice!
Whether floating girls in midair, sawing them in half or doing entertaining card tricks,
he was the "Master." His posters proclaimed, "The Greatest Magician The World Has
Ever Known!" I don't doubt it.
